Winged A Boot, Water Pumped and Washed

One of my new favorite places is Whole Sale Car Parts because of all the awesome parts that go through there such as this awesome looking wing!!

Looks quite similar to or is a knight sports Wing

We couldn't let it sit there but we also wernt sure what to do with it, well that didnt really last very long as there is a certain champagne beast that needs as much help keeping the back end as stable as possible so the mission fitting it started.

The first part of said mission was to remove it from the S14 boot lid it came with now that was the easy part as pictured above, then it was time to remove the Carbon boot lid already on the car now while it was awesome looking... bolting a wing to it would have tore it to pieces so the standard metal one was chosen

Carbon lid removed

Wing mocked up onto the boot lid

Bolt holes all measured up and centers marked

 Drilling bolt holes

 holes drilled

Testing fitment before bolting down the top

During our drilling and banter we disturbed the locals.

Willis the Possum
Shezza the possum

Checking the level

Wing on

Awesome way to spend a friday afternoon, well the next day there was more work to be done on the car as during its last outing the original water pump didnt like reving to 8,200 rpm and started to cry out of the weep hole, since then the car has been sitting so it wasnt a drama well that was until i organized another Queensland Raceway breakfast and Motorkhana so its needed once again!!

Waiting for the silicon to cure

Once again it roared into life... well cant expect much with a turbo back straight exhaust, whilst it roared it was cranky that its slumber was disturbed it stalled quite a few times whilst being reversed out the front for a bath.... hmmmmm cold start map... what cold start map?

All washed and ready to be thrashed

lucky us were paid a visit from the kids in blue because of a cranky next door Neighbor afraid for her life because we are all hoons out to kill her!!! when the police asked why it was so loud we simply said... BECAUSE RACE CAR!!!!
Well thats it for this post

Yup Behind Again, Lakeside coverage

Hi All

I know few and far between again... I have reasons though!!

I ended up getting sick a few weeks ago with a gastro bug that was going around and it really hit me for a six, I also recently hit a quarter of a century years old!!

But dont think for a second cars have taken a back seat, we have been full steam ahead since my post about the Lakeside breakfast, We have another car to add to the NK stable, changes to some of the current cars and we are gearing up for a massive Drift event being held at Queensland Raceway early october DRIFT MATSURI!!!!

Since my last post we have done quite a lot of work one a few of the cars such as putting the stock metal bootlid back on Nathans Champagne beast with the addition of a wing, picked up Kristens new Cefiro, Stripped a half cut, geared up for Matsuri and have made a tonn of progress with Project Origin X so we can run it at Matsuri (yes yes i know i said it was going to be a time attack car but I want to slide it first)

There will be Blog posts for all!!

Ok so I'm guessing your all saying quite with the story and get on with the cars!!! well hold on because I thought I would first post some videos and photos of the Breakfast @ Lakeside we held last month, I honestly swear that Silvie just doesnt like tracks then again everything went pretty well out at Lakeside until I brought Mum in (Yup she came for a passenger run) so I could pick up the pace... I ended up hitting my front/dump pipe on the stupid freaking pot holes on the road that runs behind the pits, I went back out not thinking much about it until i got two or three laps in and i could hear that all to familiar squealing noise coming from the manifold to turbo gasket... yes yes i know i need to change the stupid X-Force exhaust system.

Ok well here are some of the Lakeside pics and the videos Ive uploaded.

 The line up
Kristen pulling away from Steve's S15
 Sean surrounded by imports
Kristen Leading a pack (Silvie at the top of the hill)
Silvie squealing past because of gasket leak :(
And again

There are more photos Here

Here are the Videos that I threw together, the first is a mix of in-car and trackside. The second is all the in-car I took.

Alright All Stay tuned as ill most likely have a few more posts up tonight!!

and as always stay safe!!

Productive Weekends: A Road to Lakeside

Hey All,

What a weekend!! I was originally going to do this in two parts but I really didnt get around to it last night so this one is going to be a longish one LOL...

Ok first things first as you may have noticed the extra banner at the top of my blog, Well its a bit of a tribute for my Friend Nathan for all of the hard work he has put into my Silvia with me and his future help with Project Origin X. I'm all for helping him getting his name out there as the man.. well lets face it does purely awesome work with imports so keep your eyes open because you may start seeing more and more cars getting around with an NKDriftworx sticker on the back.

In the next coming months im actually going to be doing Feature posts for all of the Core NK cars so stay tuned..

But for now onto the main reason for this stupidly long post!!!

Some may know or not know that I am a moderator on NissanSilvia.com well over the past year I have been organizing breakfast sessions out out Lakeside and Queensland raceways and they have become quite popular, well a few weeks ago I got the urge randomly to organize another one and lets face it its pretty much one email away from Keith out at QR and its booked without any drama's and with the popularity of the event spots fill fast.

Long explanation short the event is mainly a social event more then a track event as it only goes for a few hours in the morning and majority of that time is spent... well.. socializing, We usually meet prior to heading to the track and socialize and then we head out to the track for breakfast. during which... well we socialize.... yes I'm a little nuts... anyway...

The biggest attraction to the event apart from the socializing is the actual track time we get, we modify our cars for a reason and thats to push their limits and what better way to test those limits then out at the race track, The breakfast event is actually limited to "fast road speeds" so generally going at about 50% of what you normally would around the circuit but it still is a whole lot of fun.

Any outing to the track regardless of it being a drift session, time attack or a breakfast is preparation because lets face it you'll end up having drama's... well in my case even with preparation I still have dramas.

So this weekend we spent doing a bit of work to the cars to get them ready, specially mine for me as it had been at the body shop for 2 weeks and it has little quirks and bugs that still need sorting out. Well i picked Silvie up on Thursday and i was absolutely impressed with how well it came out, Camo is a bloody legend I could not possibly stress that anymore then I already have because we all remember how Silvie looked before going back there....

Before

After

So you get my point, well if you dont well that is the same front bar pictured above it and its a genuine plastic Aero bar, its mint you really can not tell that it has been repaired. he also fixed my Nismo grill that was absolutely butchered.

Saturday

ok sorry... as i was saying the preparation well Lakeside is next Sunday and with three cars to get ready we had a pretty full weekend, Silvie being the attention whore she is took up all of Saturday with fixing up the fuel system...

That part of it all started with me wanting to replace the fuel filter, Nathan with his Eagle eye spotted a bigger problem that i hadnt. All of the fuel lines in the engine bay were the original ones from when Silvie was manufactured back in 91 and my SARD FPR was actually leaking.

Now the lines were just old and were starting to perish and just die, the FPR on the other hand isnt all that old and with the way it was leaking air was also getting into the fuel even before it made it past the injectors most likely causing the fuel to atomize (turn to air) which was most likely why my fuel economy (pfffft what economy its a modified turbo) was going but not only that.. good bye nice AFR's and most likely causing the mixture to be lean.

Old filter (no the filter wasnt the original factory item) and lines

FPR (Fuel Pressure Regulator) Threads sealed and back in

So out the whole lot came, Lines replaced, Filter replaced and FPR resealed on the threads as thats where it was leaking quite badly.

During this whole process Nathans Eagle eye also spotted a ground down behind the engine that was not actually connected.... I swear he has a sixth sense about these things.

Now that wasn't all there was to do with the fuel system and this sorta shows how slack I am, a few years ago i was running a Bosch 040 fuel pump and the thing died on me and i ended up replacing it with a Walbro pump... when Scotty and I put the Bosch in we modified the fuel pump cradle as the bosch is a whole lot bigger than the standard pump... well the the walbro is a factory replacement and as such is a whole lot smaller then the bosch. The walbro never really sat right in the cradle and i wouldn't get the right level from my fuel gauge and it was just inefficient due to it using an S14 foot over a S13 foot (they are different)

So we also thought we would fix that while we were at it as we had a mint cradle that we could use.

Old Cradle out
Fuel pump setup in the new cradle.

Since we fixed all of that up Silvie is running one hundred percent better then she was and doesnt bellow out a stupid amount of fuel from the exhaust, that's pretty much what we did on Saturday well apart from me swapping over Boss kits for my steering wheel as the old one had play in it and was in need of replacement.

Keep with me guys!!! I said that this was a long one!!!

bit of a intermission maybe? well here is some pics of the grey 180sx we are putting together that i mentioned in my last post.
.
Hmmmm some tasty Type X lights and center garnish

We found the problem!! the battery is missing!!
(the real one was the poo CA18DET)

The car is going to be pretty basic with a SR20, FMIC, Exhaust and coilovers basically a decent rig to start learning how to drift in - once it is finished it will be up for sale.

Sunday

Kristens Black S13 has been running a Poo R180 diff since we built it and has been needing a decent R200 so this morning we pulled apart two R200 we had in the shed to figure out which one was the best to actually use in her car, well really there wasnt much of a choice as one was a long nose and the other is a stubby nose which we needed as it will match her tail shaft.

Kristen and Kate out in Sassy13 at the last QR Breakfast.

Ok so both diff's were normal R200's that have been shimmed to make them tighter the long nose had the six bolt splines we needed to match Sassy's half shafts so Nathan and Kristen swapped them over and got the diff ready to go into the car later in the week.

Milk Crates making life easier.

Kristen's never afraid to get her hands dirty nor let the boys have all the fun

Kristen putting her new diff back together.

Ok So like I said the fresh R200 will be getting put in during the week so its ready for lakeside next sunday, but that wasnt the end of the day as i mentioned before we have three cars to get ready. Mine, Kristens and the 3rd being Nathans Green S13.

We have had the main parts of the car ready for quite a while its just the small things that we havent done like the body, exhaust, tyres and wheel alignment that we just keep putting off, Like all true modifiers Nathan has changed his mind upon the appearance of the green car a few times.

At one stage we had it looking like this

Well like i said Nathan has changed his mind again and has steered away from the big kit for something a little smaller, we had a black Nismo Aero bar hanging around for awhile and recently the grey 180sx came with copy Nismo skirts so today the skirts and a standard rear bar was painted black to go on the green car, at the moment we have only fitted the front bar but already it looks aggressive and awesome!!

The Nismo bar originally come of a Sil80 halfcut and had a massive cooler on the front of it so the bar itself had been cut to accommodate the cooler, with a reo bar behind it well it looked ugly so that was soon fixed.

and hey presto we fitted the front bar

In my opinion with the black nismo skirts, rear bar, blacked out taillights and black rear centre garnish it will look bloody awesome!!!

well that's it for now guys as i said its been a longish weekend and I'm wrecked as I'm still getting over the flu and todays cold wind didnt really help!!

As always Stay safe.

Buggered and the damaged

Hey all,

yeah yeah.. long time between posts again huh.. well the past week and half I've been sick with the flu and haven't been doing much really. apart from crashing cars..... yeah pretty awesome huh!!!

I did have a bit to put into this post but now i cant really remember what i was going to go on about, I really should have taken some photos over the weekend of the work that we did over at NKDriftworx but being sick I never really thought about it.

I think it was the last post I did I made reference to all of Nathans cars, well we have started work on the grey 180 to get it done and gone as soon as possible, I might have photos of it this weekend but we Pulled out the CA18DET that was a bit sad (think its cracked a few water hoses) but hey Its a CA and we had a spare SR20DET hanging around so thats going in because its well.... better LOL

That was out and on the floor ready to separate the box and clutch from it, and the engine bay empty to get it ready for the SR.

Sunday saw the Air-con system pulled out of the car by Kristen, Nathan fixed the boltholes for the drive-shafts center bearing and I replaced the poxy standard tail lights and garnish for some Type X goodness.
we did have a few more things we wanted to get done on the car like the wiring but due to some unforeseen tool drama's we couldn't finish.

Another thing happened on Sunday. Jack, Nathan and Kates Beautiful little baby boy turned 3 weeks old!!! - Happy 3 Weeks little man :D

On to more depressing things.

Well you may remember this.

If you don't well some MONG reversed into poor Silvie whilst she was parked outside of MSY..

To Add Injury to Insult...

A few weeks ago now I was out working and was involved in an accident caused by another motorist encroaching into my lane and caused this.

Basic run down of what happened was i was traveling in down a three lane road in the middle lane approaching a set of traffic lights, a silver forester was in the right hand lane going slow now I remember this as myself and her were the only people within 50 meters of each other.... anyway as we approached the set of lights i was about a car length and a half behind her and she decided she wanted to merge into my lane for some unbeknown reason, at the same time the set of lights went amber and she hit the brakes quite hard. Well she ended up on a 45 degree angle in my lane and stopped as such with me behind her and all i could do was hit the skids and try and avoid her which honestly was not going to happen no matter how hard i tried with the space that I had, i ended up being able to turn left a little bit and sort of bounced off of her rear left quarter panel and as you see in the photo of Silvie above it destroyed my front right guard, corner light, damaged my front bar even more, pushed the quarter panel into the door and side skirt causing paint damage and also damaged the bonnet, grill and head light.

My damage is being covered by her insurance company thankfully as both My insurance (Shannon's) and hers (NRMA)  deemed the accident to be her fault.

Thank you to Nathan and Andrew for coming to my rescue.

This is the only damage i caused to her car :(

Guard pulled out by Nathans Hulk powers so Silvie was drivable.

Well Silvie has been back at Camerons bodyworks since Friday before last (24/06/2011) and is still there as of tonight, I'm hopping to hear from them tomorrow as promised to go and pick her up..

To be honest Ive been out of sorts since I dropped her off, its completely different from when i dropped her off their to be painted. That was to improve her but there is just something about this time that makes me feel lost I guess, and if it feels like this then it would be ten fold if I ever sold her so I'm going to take this space to put down in writing what i vowed to do when I first brought Silvie.

I shall not sell her, the only way that we shall part ways is if i write her off.

Thanks again to Nathan as his lent me the falcon whilst Silvie is in the shop its been a big help without it i would have been sitting at home and loosing work..

Anyway guys

Clean up's and the beginning of Project Origin X

Considering this will be my second entry of the night I dont think ill be adding my usual rant at the start of this one... well i guess i could be more of a plug then anything.

Now I have mentioned this Man before and you will hear of him quite often due to the massive help he gives me with the cars, but not only that he also is one of my best mates so we help each other out when we can and not only just with cars.

This man has a crap load of cars!!! Mainly Japanese Imports but lets have a little list..

1. Champagne S13
2. Green S13
3. Yellow Levin coupe
4. Blue SR A31 (His Wife Kates)
5. Gun Metal Grey 180sx

There are a few more but they are pooo domestic market crap, as for the cars above stay tuned I'm wanting to feature them on this blog once I have a chance.

Anyway he recently needed a more usable space in the shed and also so he could fit two cars in there.. what better way to spend a weekend yeah? bloody oath it was.

We ended up filling his dads work ute with useless car parts.. basically everything conceivable from RB aircon pumps, condensers, old exhaust pieces and even a RX7 FC FMIC with smashed tanks.

what we didnt throw out is pretty much for sale so if you are looking for silvia parts (mainly s13) then checkout my sale post on Nissan Silvia

http://nissansilvia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=492883

With still the front of the shed and most of the right hand side to go im sure more will be added to either the dump or the sale.

In the end we fit both the S13's in there as these pics testify to

Ok well whats this Project Origin X you keep making mention to? I hear. well the begging of the year I got the urge to get more into time attack then drifting and for that I really need a decent car both in the terms of build, setup, power and quality.. well i didnt really have to look all that far for it as my good mate Nathan had a perfect base for me just sitting in storage.

A dead straight Type X 180 the thing is immaculate!! not a piece of rust or bend in the chassis, In my mind a perfect blank slate to start a project with.

Currently it is filthy and sitting in storage, but as soon as we have the space we will be starting work on it.

Pretty much first up will be stripping of the sound deadening, the car is going to be a track car so i will not have any carpet so i don't see the point in keeping the sound deadening.

As we go along in the preparation and build of the car I will be keeping this blog up to date with progress!

I could not be happier with the car and i couldn't be happier with the mechanic that will be helping me build it now i might be a little biased in this but considering the man was the mechanic for Team Peer during the DA days and they had a lot of podium wins i have to say he is one of the best import mechanics in the country

NATHAN FISCHER!!!!

Keep tuned Peeps!!!

Pain In The Tooth & A In Car Camera

Hello all,

Once again its been a few weeks between posts and i apologize and shall make it up to you all with two posts tonight!!!

I must admit the past few weeks have been kinda shit house, work being dead since easter hasnt made it any easier but that said i do have a new addition to my electronics collection which ill be making mention of in this post further down.

Over past few days I have been in absolute agony from one of my wisdom teeth that has slowly been deteriorating and had finally given up on Sunday night when i was enjoying a rather nice juicy steak. I bit into a piece of gristle and cracked it so needless to say I got no sleep on Sunday night.

I was quite reluctant to go to the dentist due to a prior visit for another wisdom tooth which resulted in four and a half hours sitting in the chair being poked, prodded, sawed and pulled at for one bloody tooth not to mention the week and a bit recovery.. well that wasnt sooo bad being doped up on codeine and being cared for by my awesome mother...

Anyway after be persuaded by my Mother and Sister i had a doctors appointment yesterday and to my own surprise i was in the chair for five minutes!!! bit of a wiggle here and a bit of a wiggle there followed by a good tug and the enormous prick of a thing came out.

so as i write this a day later I'm still a little on the drugged side but i actually had a decent sleep last night which is bloody good i tell ya.

before anyone asks no i didn't take a photo of it :P

Anyway onto what i was talking about before!!!

Anyone that's ever watched a video of drifting on Youtube or Vimeo knows that people strap, screw, tape and god knows what normal digital camera's onto there cars so they can film it, now I've been looking around for a decent car camara that is light and has a decent mount. I had been looking at one of the GO PRO camara kits but i cant at the moment justify spending $299 on one.

The last track day i went to i ended up jamming my normal camera in between the head rest and chair of the passenger seat, unfortunately that resulted in more of the dash board being seen then anything else, so i gave up and relegated myself to waiting till I could get a go pro.

That said a few weeks ago a member on NS posted up about a eBay camera that he had found that was said to be ok, he provided a youtube review for the camera and I thought why the hell not!! so i brought one and it finally turned up today from hong kong.

Wrapped up in Brown paper and tied string it reminded me of the way parcels used to be wrapped and sent!! was so cool... well i thought so.

So i unwrapped the thing to reveal

Now the camera is a no named brand but i didnt really care to be honest, i just wanted something that i could get an ok recording from when i was at the track.

I pulled out all the boxes content.

And the camera itself

I couldn't leave it there I had to test it so below is a test video its pretty low light but i wont be recording at night.

For those that are interested in it here is the eBay link: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HD720P-Car-DVR-Vehicle-Camera-Video-Recorder-2-5-LCD-/370488334008?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5642d356b8

Well thats it for his post!!

I should have the next one up sometime later tonight.

As always stay safe!

Bev
